Extra services
OSHC provides breakfast from 7 am until 8 am and afternoon tea from 3.15 pm until 4.15 pm for attending students. Healthy hydration stations with water and whole fruits are always available to all children and their families.
Vacation care includes all meals and snacks.
The service supports the children’s participation in many onsite activities, so much so that educators enjoy being a part of any activities offered to the children where possible. Children who have commitments before and or after school such as musical practice, district practice, homework club and drama group, etc are supported to ensure they can attend. The service is privileged to be a part of a school that offers so many experiences to the children and we endeavour to communicate with the school to ensure the service is up to date all current and upcoming educational and recreational experiences.
New prep enrolments
The service offers an introduction program for all new prep families beginning their education at Kurwongbah the following year.
Prep families are encouraged during their orientation to visit the service to meet and greet OSHC management, and arrange a date for their child/ren to use the service during the January vacation care period. The use of the service during this time will allow the children use their designated prep area, spend meal times using the same routine that they will experience at school and participate in group activities using the Australian Curriculum.
The children also often get the opportunity to meet their teachers as they frequently join us for some of the meal times in the week leading up to school commencing.
Life skills
Our National framework, My Time Our Place is based on nurturing children’s strengths to enable their life skills to grow. To support this, we offer the following programs:
·         kitchen/knife skills
·         road safety and bike safety
·         public transport knowledge and awareness (older children)
·         self-help skills in organisational skills
·         awareness and administering first aid
·         preparing basic meals
·         communications, sending a letter, using the post office
·         community safety, stranger danger, safety networks
·         social interactions and relationships.
All programs are age appropriate and an offered to all children within and beyond their skillset, provided in collaboration with teaching staff, community members, families and other children.
Service philosophy
All programs provided by the service are underpinned by the National Quality Framework, in collaboration with the My Time Our Place framework and are delivered by a dedicated team who embody the school values.
The team takes pride in providing an environment that is “outside the box” and encouraging children to explore and generate ideas for child-led programs.
The service has primary use of a double demountable classroom that is split between a quiet area and construction and science investigation, with a wet area for art and craft in the middle. In the quiet area, the children are able to participate in daily yoga and meditation, as well as other quiet activities.
